One-Time Password

OTP

The short code sent to confirm a login, payment or sign-up.

Plain-language definition

The short code sent to confirm a login, payment or sign-up.

Technical definition

OTP traffic is the most latency-sensitive and typically highest-priced A2P category. It is delivered as ordinary SMS but is time-bounded, single-use and subject to repeated-OTP and flooding controls to prevent abuse of verification services.

Why it matters

OTP is the traffic subscribers notice immediately when delivery degrades, the traffic fraud concentrates on, and the traffic FlashCall and AIT both target.
